This weekend, I’ll be cooking for a crowd in the first annual Boston Ice Cream & Hot Sauce Takedown.
J & I are competing in the hot sauce division. We practically burnt off our own faces in the process of creating this recipe. At one point, I wished we had one of those emergency eye wash stations that sat in the corner of chemistry lab in middle school.
All is fair in love and habaneros.
We really love honey mustard sauce, it is one of the foundations of our relationship. We also love spicy foods, and winning. So we came up with a hot sauce that tastes like honey mustard sauce from hell.

I will share the recipe after the event, but I want to make a shout-out to Christina’s Spice & Speciality foods for their dried pepper and mustard seed provisions. We found the hottest version of every ingredient to make this sauce, and I think it will really scorch some tastebuds on Sunday.
But don’t worry, after tasting 10+ hot sauces, attendees can sooth their palates and their souls with 10+ flavors of ice cream!
Check out the Takedown website for event information, tickets, and more on the almighty curator Matt Tims. Last year, we competed in the Bacon Takedown and it was a bold undertaking to say the least. This time, we feel like seasoned competitors and ready to start the fire.
Be back with more on our recipe and the voter results!
