Getting Messy With It

I was instantly intrigued when I saw Elizabeth posting on her ‘gram about the Get Messy Art Journal project. I saw blank pages of art journals transform into a colorful, patterned, textured pieces of art, and I was like, “Yes, please!” Then, I learned that there is a community of art journalers that share their work with each other. It’s a community all about making yourself get messy and make art, and I think it is so cool.

Needless to say, it didn’t take me long to join in on the fun. I pulled out all of my paints, papers, brushes, and glue, hoping this would be an opportunity to spend more time away from technology and to connect with my creative self. It worked. I quickly filled up an entire journal with page after page of pointless, beautiful things. What a relief to not have an end product in mind while I create!

I started hosting craft nights (Kraft Nites, to be precise) at my apartment with some girlfriends. They seem to have taken to this activity with the same gusto as I did! We enjoy pooling together our craft supplies, fawning over stamps and stencils, and spending time together doing something that is plain and simple fun.

Now, it’s time to share my pages on the Link Ups over at Get Messy Art Journal, so I’m posting about it here first. Maybe I’ll do it again in a few weeks. I have also shared many photos of my pages over on my Instagram account, check me out at @halleyart

Here are some of my favorite pages from April, May, and June.
